Richards Middle School was established on September 5, 1961. It was named for Walter Alan Richards who served as the president of the Muscogee County Board of Education. Through the years, Richards Middle School and the Richards Middle School Band program has built a reputation of excellence. Former directors include Mr. James Mahaffey, Dr. Johnnie Vinson, Mr. Bob Greenhaw, Mr. Bob Lee, Mrs. Kathy Foor, Mr. Morris Foor, Ms. Lea Breeding, Mr. Isaac Leverett, and the current director is Mrs. Marci Walters, who will be retiring at the end of this school year. The new band director has been announced! Mrs. Andrea Johnson is the new director for Richards Middle School!

Band Director is Mrs. Marci Walters. Mrs. Walters graduated high school from Hardaway High School, after attending Jr. High at Richards Middle School.  Mrs. Walters attended University of Georgia  and graduated from Columbus State University, where upon she was hire by MCSD as band director at Marshall Middle School. 

Mrs. Walters began teaching band at Richards in 2015 and continues today. The Warrior Band has received Excellent and Superior ratings at GMEA's Large Group Performance Evaluation, under Mrs. Walters' direction, as well as Superior ratings at Wild Adventures Music Festival in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
